Children who are denied high-quality early childhood services achieve poorly in elementary school.

We have been reading Designing Early Literacy Programs by Lea M. McGee and Donald J. Richgels. This books confirms why we are dedicated to partnering with community centers and preschools to ensure all students have access to high quality literacy instruction.⠀

"5 million children in the US attend child-care centers daily, but only 1 in 7 child-care centers provides adequate language and learning experiences (Helburn, 1995). Children who are denied high-quality early childhood services achieve poorly in elementary school."

Research in Action

We love our preschool partners! Mt. Zion Academy is dedicated to ensuring all their students have access to high-quality literacy experiences. Together we have implemented a play-based literacy program with lots of opportunities to engage with books and practice literacy skills. Through assessments, we have identified the skills each student needs to work on the be kindergarten ready!
